Another great musical tradition is continuing in Lyons at LaVern Johnson Park. Three Saturday afternoons this winter from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the town will be hosting three different bands and offering complimentary skate rental and hot chocolate at the kiosk next to the skating rink. This will be the third season and hopefully the continuation of an annual fun time for the community.
Saturday, January 11. will feature the Good Manners band. They play junkyard jazz with a swing feel. Ian Brighton (horns) has put together a fine band for this show, featuring Eric Thorin on bass, David Wiatrolik on guitar, and Charlie Rose (formally with Elephant Revival) on multiple instruments.
Saturday, January 25, we will be joined by Joe Kuckla and Irons in the Fire, who bring an energetic mix of outlaw country, folk-rock, and Joe’s original tunes. The band consists of Joe on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, with David Richey on dobro, guitar and vocals, Colin Mahoney on drums, Scott Wallard Johnson on bass, and Amy Harron on mandolin and vocals.
The season finale will be on February 8 with the beautiful jazz-inspired vocals of the Jesse Garland Band. Keyboard master Bob Schlesinger and the incredible Kim Stone laying down bass grooves like few others can will have you moving–and not just to warm up. Jesse, the niece of the legendary Judy Garland, adds a Latin feel to her inspiring vocal powers. Come and share with your neighbors and enjoy some wintertime fun and music in the park.
